How You’ll Make a Difference

As our next Family Preservation and Reunification Practitioner, you'll be providing support to children and families where the children are either at risk of entering care systems, or where safe and rapid reunification is appropriate.

Your caseload will be low, allowing you to provide intensive support to the children and families under your care. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact client outcomes by working with each family at least twice per week and placing children and families at the centre of your practice.

This program is funded to provide an intensive intervention phase of up to 200 hours per family, followed by a step-down support phase of up to 40 hours.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering effective interventions that increase parenting capacity, improve family functioning, achieve child safety and enhance the conditions for child development with the aim of achieving better outcomes for children
  • Contribute as a member of the care team or professional network to support case planning and ongoing risk assessment while working collaboratively with other agencies e.g. Child Protection
  • Identify gaps in services available to clients and advocate on their behalf

Your highly developed communication skills will also be crucial to your success in this role, as you’ll be liaising with other professionals in the industry and will have families and children relying on your ability to disseminate appropriate information regarding the services available to them.

Other requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to practice high-level emotional intelligence, especially while providing support for families impacted by trauma
  • A thorough understanding of risk factors involved in child protection matters
  • A comprehensive understanding of the principles and challenges of supporting vulnerable families and children
